German Shepherd Protection Training
If part of your reason for having a German Shepherd is so that your dog can protect you, it is important that you make sure that your dog is properly trained.
It may not be necessary for you to take your dog to a professional for this. As a kid my family had a great protection German Shepherd that my father trained. Many people train their dogs to be good protectors by themselves. This is mainly because German Shepherd Protection Training by professionals can often be cost prohibitive.
If you are going to do this yourself, the first step is to you to learn properly how to train a German Shepherd in basic obedience. Once you know how to teach your dog properly, then taking him to the next level of protection training will be much easier.
As I have said in some of my other articles, I have had many dogs over the years. I have seen training done the wrong way and so I have made it a point to learn how to do it the right way. Not only do you get a much more obedient German Shepherd, but a much happier one. By far the best dog training program I have ever come across is Doggy Dan’s video training course. It is so good and so easy to understand and to follow. He teaches you step by step how to teach your dog basic obedience, as well as how to remove any bad habit or behavioral problem your dog may have acquired. Then once your German Shepherd has mastered basic obedience, and you have gotten him over any bad habits, then you are ready to begin protection training. German Shepherd dogs are naturals! They do this so well.
The main thing to remember is your dog is for security, he is not an attack dog. You need to socialize your Shepherd so that he easily recognizes the friends and family and social situations as well as threatening situations, so he knows the difference. You will also want to begin teaching him to be comfortable around noises and traffic and other things that often scare dogs or make them angry.
It is important that you teach them to bark when they hear noises outside the house, and reward them for this. And then to immediately be and stay quiet upon a specific command. These are all basic protection training aspects most of which you will learn out of Doggy Dan’s, and other of the better courses.
That is all I have for now. Just remember that a happily obedient well behaved German Shepherd, will also be the best protector.
